The Maison Dieu, the oldest of the Town Hall buildings, was founded by Hubert de Burgh, then the Constable of Dover Castle in 1203. It provided short term accommodation for travelling pilgrims, and has fulfilled many functions since.

This small church, set between the house and outbuildings of Knowlton Court, is mediaeval in origin but outwardly Victorian. Most furnishings seem to date from 1841, but in an older style, manor pews facing each other in the chancel.

The flint-walled 13th Century chapel and hall of a 'Commandery' of Knights Hospitallers, later converted into a farmhouse. It has a remarkable medieval crown post roof and 16th Century ceilings with moulded beams.

This church is remote from the road and squats snugly on bleak downland above Folkestone, looking towards France. With a single Norman window, 13th Century piscina, 14th Century three-arched stone rood-screen and other unique features.

St Mary's occupies what may be the oldest church site in Sandwich, where a 7th century convent was founded of which nothing now survives. There remains substantial parts of a large Norman church.
